Listings are not reservations. Credit hire depends on our assessment and the signed agreement. The hire charges are claimed from the at-fault insurer; the agreement sets out when you could be asked to pay.
Vehicle classes
What like-for-like means
You are matched to the class of your own car, not to a random spare. If only a lower class is available we say so before delivery, and the rate reflects it.
Economy
Small hatchbacks. City driving, short trips, easy to park.
Standard
Family hatchbacks and saloons. The most common like-for-like match.
Executive
Premium saloons and SUVs, matched when that is what you drive.
People carriers
6 or 7 seats for families, school runs and larger private-hire jobs.
Electric
Battery-electric cars, for drivers who already charge at home or on the road.
PCO and private hire
PHV plating, explained
To carry passengers for Uber, Bolt or any operator in London a car must be licensed by TfL as a private hire vehicle and carry TfL plates. A plain hire car cannot legally do that work.
- Our PCO replacements are TfL-licensed and plated before delivery.
- Your operator app needs the new registration. We help you add it.
- TfL must be told of a vehicle change within 72 hours. We file it.
- Bring your private hire driver licence to the handover. The plate covers the car; your licence covers you.
Before a car is confirmed
- We check your circumstances and what class you need.
- We check availability and any licensing needs.
- You read the agreement, the daily rate and your responsibilities.
- Only cars on our own fleet records are listed above. We do not publish a fleet size; what is available changes daily.
Browsing the fleet does not reserve a car. Your handler confirms the allocation and the delivery time.
How we are paidDelivery and handover
What is included, and how the car arrives
Five steps, the same every time. Everything is written down and photographed so nothing depends on memory.
- 01
Handler confirms the car
Make, model, class and delivery time, in your portal, before the car leaves. PCO drivers: the TfL plate is on it.
- 02
Delivered to you
Inside Greater London within 2 hours of a handler confirming your claim, subject to availability and traffic. Elsewhere, we give you the time first.
- 03
Walked round together
You and our driver check the car. Fuel or charge level, mileage and any existing marks go on the condition report with time-stamped photos.
- 04
Signed on the driver's device
The condition report and hire agreement are signed on the spot and appear in your portal straight away.
- 05
Collected the same way
At the end of the hire the same check happens, with the same photos, so there is no argument later about the state of the car.
Included with every replacement
Delivery and collection
To your door and back, at times agreed with you. No trip to a depot.
Condition report, both ends
Time-stamped photographs at handover and collection, stored on your file.
The right class
Like-for-like where the fleet allows. If only a lower class is available we say so first and the rate reflects it.
Cover set out in writing
Insurance cover for the car and any excess for damage are stated in your agreement before you sign.
Fuel, mileage and use
- Fuel or charge: the car comes with a recorded level. Return it with the same amount, or the difference is charged at cost.
- Mileage: any mileage terms are in your agreement before you sign. Tell us how you use your car, especially if you drive for work, so the terms fit.
- Fines, tolls, congestion and ULEZ charges while the car is in your care are yours.
- Named drivers only, with a valid licence. No sub-hire.
- Report any damage, fault or incident to us the same day.
Keep the car only as long as you reasonably need it. Keeping it after your own car is back, or after we ask for it, is one of the situations where hire charges can become yours. How we are paid explains the others.
Passengers, child seats, access needs
Tell your handler before the car is allocated. Seats and any adaptations you need are confirmed with the car, not discovered at the door.
Insurer vs us
Claim on your own policy, or claim from theirs? It's not close.
After a non-fault accident you have two routes. One costs you your excess and puts a claim on your record. The other doesn't.
Route A
Through your own insurer
Your excess
You pay it first — usually £250 to £1,000 — and try to get it back later.
Your no-claims bonus
A claim goes on your own policy. Your bonus can be affected until fault is settled.
Claim on your policy
Yes — a claim is opened against you and stays on your record.
Replacement car
Whatever your policy allows — often a small hatchback, sometimes nothing.
If you drive for Uber, Bolt or FREENOW
Standard courtesy cars aren't PCO-licensed. You can't work.
Who chases the at-fault insurer
You do — on hold, between jobs, for weeks.
Route B
Not on your recordWith Courtesy Cars UK
Your excess
Nothing to pay. We claim from the at-fault driver's insurer, not you.
Your no-claims bonus
No claim on your policy, so your no-claims bonus isn't touched.
Claim on your policy
No. It's not on your record — the at-fault insurer carries it.
Replacement car
Like-for-like. TfL-plated if you drive PCO, so it matches what you lost.
If you drive for Uber, Bolt or FREENOW
TfL-licensed replacement so you keep earning while your car is fixed.
Who chases the at-fault insurer
We do. Every call and letter is logged in your portal.
Not sure what you need?
Tell us about your car. We match it.
Say what you drive, how many seats you need and whether you work PCO. We explain the options and the terms before you decide.
Delivered within 2 hours
Inside London, once your claim is accepted. Further out, we give you the time before you agree.
Daily rate in your portal
The rate is in your agreement and on screen before the car leaves. Nothing hidden.
Claimed from the at-fault insurer
Not from your policy. Your excess and no-claims bonus stay where they are.
