What you get
What you get as a PCO driver
Everything a standard insurer courtesy car cannot give you.
TfL-plated, like-for-like
Hybrid saloon, EV, estate, 7-seater or executive. Every car is plated and insured for private hire, so it goes on the platform the same day.
Delivered within 2 hours
To your home, garage or hub anywhere in Greater London. Our driver hands over and you sign the condition report on their phone.
£0 upfront, no excess
The car is hired on credit. Hire charges are claimed from the at-fault driver's insurer, not from you, and nothing goes on your own policy.
Platform documents in one pack
TfL licence, insurance certificate, permission letter and V5C details, ready to upload to your Uber, Bolt or FREENOW account.
Loss of earnings, evidenced
Days off the road are listed as a head of loss, backed by your platform statements, and pursued from the at-fault insurer.
Every step in your portal
Delivery time, repair updates, documents and messages appear the moment they happen. No chasing.

The detail
PCO replacement cars in London, in detail
If another driver hits your PCO car, you lose more than a vehicle. You lose the shifts you cannot work. A standard insurer courtesy car is not TfL-plated, so you cannot carry passengers in it. Courtesy Cars UK delivers a TfL-licensed replacement to your door, garage or hub anywhere in Greater London within 2 hours, with nothing to pay upfront.
Courtesy Cars UK is a trading name of Courtesy Cars Group UK Ltd. We work with London's private hire drivers every day. We deal with the at-fault driver's insurer for you, so you can get back on the platform without paying out of your own pocket.
Why PCO drivers use us instead of their own insurer
- TfL-plated cars only. Hybrid saloons, EVs, estates, 7-seaters and executive cars. Every car carries a valid TfL plate and private hire insurance, so it can go on the platform the same day it lands.
- 2-hour delivery inside London. East, west, north, south or Heathrow. We bring the car to you.
- £0 upfront. Your car is hired on credit. We claim the hire charges from the at-fault driver's insurer, not from you. There is no excess to pay and no claim on your own policy.
- Live claim tracking. Log in at /track-my-claim to see each stage, delivery time, documents and messages as they happen.
- TfL 72-hour rule support. We help you prepare the TfL notification so your licence stays in good standing.
How it works
Step 1: Report your accident
Use the online form at /report-accident or call 020 7052 5403. We take the basics: what happened, the other driver's registration and your PCO details.
Step 2: We check the position
Our claims handlers contact the other driver's insurer and confirm you were not at fault. We then match a TfL-licensed car from our fleet to yours.
Step 3: Handover within 2 hours
We deliver a clean, plated car anywhere in Greater London within 2 hours. You get the TfL licence, insurance certificate and V5C details so you can upload them to your operator profile straight away.
Step 4: Keep working while we manage the repair
Track your own car's repair and your claim at /track-my-claim. When your car is back, or a total loss is settled, you hand the hire car back to us.
Your rights after a non-fault accident
Many PCO drivers think they have to take whatever courtesy car their own insurer offers. You do not. A courtesy car on a standard policy is for social use and is almost never TfL-plated. If you accept it, you stop earning.
Under English law, a driver who was not at fault can hire a replacement vehicle on credit and claim the reasonable hire charges from the at-fault driver's insurer. Because your PCO car is your tool of trade, a like-for-like plated replacement is a reasonable cost to claim. Recovery is not certain, and you may be liable under your agreement if the claim fails or you are found to be at fault. We explain this in writing before you sign.
The TfL 72-hour rule
TfL requires licensed private hire drivers to report any accident affecting the safety, performance or appearance of their licensed vehicle within 72 hours. Missing that window can lead to a licence review or suspension.
We walk you through the TfL notification. Read the full guide at /guides/tfl-72-hour-rule.
Insurer vs us
Claim on your own policy, or claim from theirs? It's not close.
After a non-fault accident you have two routes. One costs you your excess and puts a claim on your record. The other doesn't.
Route A
Through your own insurer
Your excess
You pay it first — usually £250 to £1,000 — and try to get it back later.
Your no-claims bonus
A claim goes on your own policy. Your bonus can be affected until fault is settled.
Claim on your policy
Yes — a claim is opened against you and stays on your record.
Replacement car
Whatever your policy allows — often a small hatchback, sometimes nothing.
If you drive for Uber, Bolt or FREENOW
Standard courtesy cars aren't PCO-licensed. You can't work.
Who chases the at-fault insurer
You do — on hold, between jobs, for weeks.
Route B
Not on your recordWith Courtesy Cars UK
Your excess
Nothing to pay. We claim from the at-fault driver's insurer, not you.
Your no-claims bonus
No claim on your policy, so your no-claims bonus isn't touched.
Claim on your policy
No. It's not on your record — the at-fault insurer carries it.
Replacement car
Like-for-like. TfL-plated if you drive PCO, so it matches what you lost.
If you drive for Uber, Bolt or FREENOW
TfL-licensed replacement so you keep earning while your car is fixed.
Who chases the at-fault insurer
We do. Every call and letter is logged in your portal.
You should still tell your own insurer the accident happened — that's a notification, not a claim. Under credit hire we seek to recover charges from the at-fault party's insurer. Recovery is not guaranteed and you may be liable under your agreement if the claim is unsuccessful or you are found to be at fault. How we are paid.
